Ideas for Home
- Kindergarten and First Grades use a Handwriting Program Called Handwriting Without Tears. They have an app called Wet, Dry, Try that models, guides, and allows for independent practice of uppercase and lowercase letters, along with numbers. It is recommended that your child use a stylus for this activity, in order to maximize the transfer into paper/pencil tasks. https://shopping.lwtears.com/product/CLNAPP/products-by-type
- Dreambox - This Math app aligns closely with the ways in which we teach math and use math tools. This app will automatically adjust the level based on student performance. (You will get information about this from your child's teacher)
- In the beginning of the year, your child will receive a weekly "Comprehension Book Bag" that has a parent guide. This program helps parents to engage with their children in meaningful discussions about books. It is our hope that you read to/with your child daily, and the book bag program is just a supplement to the books you are already reading at home. As the year progresses, your child will begin to choose a book from his/her book box to bring home each night. This book has likely been read multiple times at school and should be easy for your child to read. Our hope is that you can celebrate your child's successes when the book comes home. Repeated readings help to build a child's fluency in reading.
- The Math Learning Center, which is the company that produces our Math curriculum Bridges, has a variety of apps available that might be fun for you child. These include Geoboards and Number Rack, but the apps sometimes change. It is best to search for "The Math Learning Center" in the app store.
